A "phobia" is an irrational or extreme fear of something that’s unlikely to cause harm. Phobias are different than regular fears because they cause significant distress, possibly interfering with life at home, work, or school. Some common phobias are acrophobia, fear of heights; arachnophobia, fear of spiders; Coulrophobia, fear of clowns. Ex: I couldn't climb the Eiffel Tower because I suffer from acrophobia. Ex: A: Do you want to see my pet tarantula? B: No way! I'm actually arachnophobic.
