Native speaker’s answer

"Speech" is the ability to talk and express oneself with language. "A speech" is a formal spoken presentation, usually in front of a large audience. "Speaking" is the act of expressing yourself through words. "Speaking" doesn't necessarily mean that you are giving a speech; it's just the act of talking. However, "speaking" can describe somebody giving a speech. Ex: I am giving a speech on veganism. (presentation/explaining a topic) Ex: He will be speaking to his boss tomorrow about a possible raise. (talking/expressing himself) Ex: Professor X will be speaking in the auditorium tonight. (giving a presentation/explaining a topic) Ex: Humans developed speech approximately 3 million years ago. (the ability to talk)
