I've heard that many of American cartoon characters are named after historical figures. In this case, does Garfield originally named after the President of the United States?
While there may be many comic characters named after historical figures. However, the cat Garfield in the comic is actually named after Davis's, the creator of the comic strip, grandfather, James Garfield Davis. While he may have been named after former U.S. President James Garfield, there is no evidence of this.
