Can I say "pause him" instead of "stop him"?

"Pause him" is not a phrase which is used. This is because to "stop" someone means that you prevent them from doing something and has a sense of being permanent. "Pause" is usually used to mean a temporary stop in action or speech, and therefore does not have the same nuance as "stop". Ex: We have to stop him from leaving. (Permanent) Ex: He paused for a moment before leaving. (Temporary)
