"Make it" here means to succeed in doing something like reaching a place. Ex: We'll never make it back home in this snowstorm. Ex: I can't make it to dinner tomorrow, I have to work late. "Make it" can also mean to succeed at reaching a position or a title. Ex: If I work really hard I might be able to make it to assistant manager. Ex: I moved to Los Angeles to see if I could make it as an actor.
