Is it considered rude if you call someone "this/that" instead of "him/her"?
If you were to refer to a person as "this," "that," or "it," it's considered very rude and offensive. However, the only instance in which that is okay is when we say "who's this/that" to ask about the identity of someone. We can also use the alternative expression "who's that person/man/woman/etc.?" Ex: Who's this? Introduce your friend to me. Ex: Who's the woman standing beside you? She looks really familiar.
