"Take something for granted" means to underestimate the value of that person or thing. It basically means that you believe that something or someone will always be there and that you will never lose it. Ex: She complains all the time. She is taking her job for granted when others would happily do her job. Ex: I find myself taking things for granted. If I were to lose access to fresh water, I don't know what I'd do. Ex: He takes his mother for granted when she does everything for him.
