Is there any difference between "so" and "very"?

"So" and "very" can be used interchangeably to emphasize adjectives. "So" can be used with "that" to add additional information. Ex: It is very cold outside. Ex: It is snowing so much. Ex: It is so cold outside that I need to wear three layers of clothing.
