Why isn't there any article "an" or "the" before "exit"?

Great question. Leaving out articles when listing nouns is actually grammatically correct. But we're more likely to leave out repeated definite articles (the) than indefinite ones. For example if you were listing fruits that you bought, since were buying items from among many. Many melons, many lemons, many pineapples. You need the indefinite article "a" for each fruit. Ex: I bought a melon, a lemon and a pineapple. However if there was only one of each thing, for example one pen, eraser, and pencil sharpener, we can use on "the" for all three items. Ex: I asked her to pass me the pen, eraser and pencil sharpener. Which is the case here, "the" before "aisles" is also connected to "exit"
