Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

This is quite common in English! Saying no, and yes is a way of agreeing with what was said in the previous sentence. He is saying "no" because he doesn't want to eat dry food all of the time, but he says yes as a way of agreeing with the other cat that he likes eating dry food, but not every single day. It sometimes is used accidentally because the speaker misspoke and meant to say yes but accidentally said no. Here is an example of yes and no being intentionally used in a sentence. A: I hate when people ignore me. It's so rude. B: No, yes! It's beyond frustrating!
