What is the difference of “faint” and “pass out”?

"Faint" and "pass out" can both mean a loss of consciousness, however, "faint" is generally a more formal word. Ex: He faints at the sight of blood. Ex: I passed out after playing basketball yesterday. Also, "pass out" does not always mean to "faint" or "lose consciousness. It is often used to mean "fall asleep". Ex: As soon as I get in bed I'm going to pass out.
