Native speaker’s answer

"Planking" in this case refers to a trend several years ago among young people which involved lying facedown, in a position where you are flat like a plank. This activity was often a dare between people, and occurred in unusual areas in public such as on top of benches, grass, tables, etc. However, the word "planking" normally refers to an exercise where you rest on your forearms and straighten your body so it is parallel to the ground. The position from the "planking" trend is similar to this exercise, except in the exercise, you are not lying flat on the ground, and your body is pushed up to strengthen the muscles in your core.
