Can I say "good boy" to a person?

"Good boy" is usually used to compliment animals or children. It is better to not say it to adults, as it can be seen as offensive or mocking to that person. Ex: Good boy! Go fetch that ball for me. Ex: Be a good boy and help mommy wash the dishes.
