The term "densely-populated" is used to describe the human population of an area. At times it might also be used to describe a population of animals or even organisms in a science experiment. If an area, such as a country, or in this case an island, is described as densely populated this means that there are many people living there compared with places of a similar size. The opposite of this would be "sparsely populated" or "low population". Ex: Children who live in densely populated cities are more likely to have asthma. Ex: This area used to be sparsely populated.
