Does "to take someone into my arms" mean "to hug someone"?

Usually "taking someone into my arms" would mean embracing, like a hug to show love or comfort the person. Which is the case here. However, if you needed to carry someone or pick them up, you would have to hold them a bit differently (more tightly, for one thing), but 'take into your arms' is still the natural way of describing that. Note that "take someone into your arms" is a very poetic way of saying something and may not be that commonly used. Ex: I took her into my arms and carried her upstairs. Ex: Take me into your arms. I need a hug.
