student asking question

Can I use "how" instead of "what" here?

teacher

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

Unfortunately no. You need to use "what" in this sentence because it would change the meaning of the question. When he asks her "what was the process like?" he is asking her to explain the steps of getting her wedding dress made. If he were to ask her "How was the process of getting your wedding dress made?" he would be asking her if she liked or disliked the steps taken to having her wedding dress made.
