Good question. If you have an "intent", it means that you have a motive or purpose. If you are "intent on" doing something, you are determined to get it done. That you are giving all of your attention and or effort to that task or goal. "Intention" and "intent" are synonyms, but with a slight difference. "Intention" is more about a general desire or plan to do something, while "intent" has a stronger nuance, indicating a strong determination to get it done. Ex: She seems intent on getting revenge. Ex: They were intent on completing all of their work.
