I haven't seen the word "upriver". What does it mean? Then is there a word like "downriver"?

"Upriver" is an adverb or adjective used to describe the direction of something near/facing the source of a river. (The source of a river is where the river starts.) It is used to give a sense of direction. Here, the speaker has used upriver to describe the location of the Houses of Parliament in relation to the River Thames. "Downriver" is used as well. It means toward or at a point near the mouth of a river. (The mouth of a river is the place where the river meets another river, ocean, lake or sea.) Ex. The settlement was located upriver, away from the ocean. Ex. If you move downriver, you can find many ancient dwellings. Ex. Parliament is located upriver, near the river's source.
