"Cub" is the word used to describe the young (babies) of foxes, bears, lions, wolves, and other carnivorous mammals. You can think of it as the equivalent of kitten for baby cats, or puppy for baby dogs. Ex: The lion cub is still very small, as it was just born a week ago. Ex: There are many sports teams named after animals, including the Chicago Cubs.
