What does "abide" mean?

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

Great question. "Abide" has a few meanings in English but, in this context, it means to live or stay somewhere ("the field"). It's a pretty old use of the word abide and outside of biblical phrases or old books, you won't hear it often in modern conversation. Ex: I shall abide here for a while. Ex: He abided in the wilderness for 40 days.
