There is a slight difference between "open" and "open up." "Open" is commonly used when you are unlatching or allowing access to something, such as when you open a window or door. Ex: She opened the door for me. Ex: I really want to open the windows. Ex: The store is open twenty-four hours a day! "Open up" has several meanings. First, it can have the same meaning as "open. Second, it can be used in an emotional scenario. If someone "opens up" to another person, it means that he or she is starting to trust that person. He is telling that person more about himself. And third, you can use "open up" when there going to be a new store in town. Ex: I can't believe she opened up to me. She is usually very reserved. Ex: Open up! Police! Ex: There is a new store opening up downtown.
