Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

A "debutante" is a young woman of a wealthy, upper class family who presents her coming of age as an adult at a large formal dance called a "debutante ball". Families gather at the "debutante ball" to celebrate their daughters' entrance into adulthood. This tradition originates back to the 1600s in Europe, and is still common today among the very upper class of America and Europe.
