What does "do" mean here?

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

The full expression is "do you one better," which is used when one wants to express that they can upstage, outshine, or surpass something or someone in some way. In this video, Iron Man seems to have used the phrase to express that he thinks Peter Quill's question is ludicrous, as he does not even know who Gamora is and thus obviously would be unable to share where she is. He responds with "I'll do you one better" to ask an even stranger question, "who is Gamora?" Drax makes the situation even funnier by asking "why is Gamora," which clearly doesn't make sense and is the strangest question of all. Ex: You say you cleaned your room today? I'll do you one better - I cleaned my whole house. Ex: I scored 100 on my math exam, but my brother did me one better by getting 100 on all his exams.
