A "gadget" is a small mechanical or electrical device that is used to help improve something. An example of a gadget would be a can opener or a smart phone. A "gizmo" is a gadget that the user cannot remember the name of. Saying "gizmo" is basically a placeholder name for the item. For example, if you are using a wine opener but you cannot remember the name of it, you could call it a "gizmo." Ex: My phone is an amazing gadget that can not only contact others, but can do so many other things! Ex: This gizmo is amazing! It can core and peel apples so quickly!
