Great question. To "keep in touch" with someone means that you maintain communication with them although you do not see them in person often. This is same as the phrase "stay in touch" and can be used interchangeably. Ex: They moved away five years ago, but we still keep in touch. Ex: I can't believe you still keep in touch with him after all these years.
