Today, the terms ‘wedding band’ and ‘wedding ring’ have come to mean the same thing, but there was a distinction in the past. In the old days, women received a family ring or colored gemstone, and men were the ones who wore wedding bands. But as time changed, tradition also got changed, and women began to wear wedding bands. The design of the wedding band also became more decorative, feminine, and detail intensive, and it is known as a wedding ring today. If you go to the jewelry shop and ask for the wedding band, they will show you plain rings of gold, titanium, silver, tungsten-carbide, etc. If you ask for the wedding ring, they will show you wedding bands that also include stones (usually, diamonds). However, technically, they are considered the same thing, and the terminology is used interchangeably.
