Can you use the word "active" only for the machine? Can't I use it for humans instead?

No, you don't only have to use "active" for just machines. You can definitely use the word "active" for humans also. Ex: He is a very active person. He hikes, bikes, swims and runs all of the time. Ex: I'm not the most active. I'm not too fond of sports, and I hate exercising.
