Great question. To stop (dead) in (one's) tracks means to stop at the exact spot where you are and be motionless. Usually the stop and complete stillness is because of fear, or some sort of noise. In the case of this video it is due to the desire to be unseen and unnoticed. Ex: We stopped dead in our tracks when we heard rustling in the bushes. Ex: The kids were running along the lawn when a loud bang stopped them dead in their tracks.
