La frase "long haul" se utiliza para hacer referencia a un periodo de tiempo, podrían ser días, semanas, meses o años. Cuando alguien dice que están "in it for the long haul" significa que están comprometidos en trabajar o formar parte, hasta el final o hasta que quede hecho, de algo que tomará su tiempo. Ej: "I'm in this relationship for the long haul." (Esta relación de la que formo parte va para largo.) Ej: "They have to convince voters that their candidate is in it for the long haul." (Tienen que convencer a los votantes de que su candidato estará ahí a largo plazo.)
