What's the difference between "Be good at" and "Get good at"?

To "be good at" something means that someone is already "good at" doing something. To "get good at" something implies that someone has the potential to "be good at" something, but they are not yet "good at" it and they still need to improve. Ex: He is good at basketball. Ex: I want to get good at basketball so I can be like him.
