What does “taste fine just the same” mean here? It doesn’t make sense to me.

The phrase "just the same" means "nevertheless", or "in spite of that". So "taste fine just the same" here refers to the fact that even though he may have sat on the cake, it will still taste fine. Ex: Though she drives me crazy, I love her just the same. Ex: Even though we had an umbrella, we were soaked just the same.
