What's the difference between "puppet" and "doll"?

Puppets are a movable model of a person or a creature. This is usually done with strings that are attached to the puppet or with a slot where you can insert your hand to control the puppet. A doll looks similar to a puppet, however, its movements cannot be controlled. Dolls typically don't have strings attached or a slot to insert your hands in. Puppets are typically used for some sort of show. Dolls are typically used for children to play with.
