Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

When the speaker says "and what would a ranger know of this matter?" he is implying that the ranger is speaking out of turn, and is not qualified to speak on the matter. The way the speaker phrases this question is meant to sound insulting and sarcastic. Any phrase including the words "[and] what would [someone] know about [y]" is meant to be insulting. Ex: A: I think the baby's hungry. B: What would you know about babies? You aren't even a parent. Ex: You wouldn't know anything about it, you're just a kid.
