"That up there" refers to the thing which is up above them. In this case, this means the alien army which is 300 feet above them. "That up there" can be used whenever you are referring to something located above you. Ex: That up there is the biggest cloud I have ever seen. Ex: Do you see that mountain up there? We're going to climb all the way up to the top.
