The minimum age for driving in the United States varies by state. In fact getting a driver's license in general is different depending on where you are in the US. Most states require you to obtain a permit before getting your license. A learner's permit allows you to drive while supervised under specific conditions. Most states require you to be at least 15 to obtain a learner's permit but some, only require you be 14. For a majority of states, at age 16 you can then get a restricted license, meaning you might not be able to drive during certain hours or have passengers depending on your state. You can get an unrestricted (full) license in the US between the ages of 16 and 18. As with restricted licenses, the rules for getting a full license vary by state, especially if you're over 18. The documents needed would again vary depending on the state, age and type of license you are applying for.
