"Menu items" here refer to multiple items on a menu. Usually, this means there is only one "menu", but many different items. The word "menus" doesn't refer to multiple items, but instead refers to multiple "menus". Ex: I can't decide what to get. There are too many menu items on the menu. Ex: Would you like to see all of our menus? We have breakfast, a lunch, and a dinner menu.
