Does the word "critter" has the same meaning as an "animal"?

“Critter” is a slang term used to refer to any living animal, including insects, reptiles, and mammals! So you can think of it as being closer in tone and feeling to “creature.” However, the word “critter” is sometimes associated with animals that may be considered “creepy” or “scary,” due to a series of movies about terrifying monsters that was released in the United States in the 1980s. Ex: Many types of critters live in these woods. Ex: My landlord doesn’t allow me to keep any critters in the house.
