"Make it this far" refers to succeeding to a position you did not think you would get to. That "position" can either be general, or part of a specific plan. Ex: I can't believe we made it this far in our relationship. We've been dating for a long time. Ex: I didn't think I would make it this far in college. I only have one more year to complete until I graduate.
