To "stand in (someone's) shoes" means that you are able to see or understand things from someone else's position, point of view or perspective. You are able to empathize with someone or with their situation. Ex: I think you would feel differently if you were standing in my shoes. Ex: I wish I could stand in your shoes to better understand how you feel.
