Viruses cause both colds and cases of flu. The main difference between the two is the symptoms and how quickly those symptoms appear. Cold symptoms are usually sneezing, coughing, sore throat, stuffy nose, and sometimes chest discomfort. A cold's symptoms usually happen gradually. The flu's symptoms are usually a fever, body aches, chills, fatigue, chest discomfort, cough, and headache. The flu's symptoms usually occur quickly and not gradually. Ex: She has a nasty cold. Ex: I try and get the flu shot every year.
