Why was "could" used here? Is it okay to use "would" or other auxiliary verbs?

"Could" can be used to suggest possibility as an auxiliary verb. So the use of it here is correct grammatically. "Would" can also be used in it's told of explaining outcomes of hypothetical situations. In the role of possibility both these auxiliary verbs work. Ex: I would fix my house if I had enough money. Ex: I could fix my house if I had enough money.
