"Would" is used commonly in sentences involving hypothetical situations. "Would" indicates that while someone may wish to do something, they may not necessarily do it or have the opportunity to so. Take the example of, "If I could do anything, I would stop war." It shows that the speaker may wish to stop war, but because it is a hypothetical situation, they probably are not able to do so nor have the ability. Saying "I will stop war" is different, as it implies BOTH intention and opportunity for action. Emma Watson has used "would" to indicate that what she is speaking about is a hypothetical situation. "I want her to know" is more direct and implies that she already has a daughter, which she doesn't. Ex: A: What would you do if you won the lottery? B: I would buy a mansion if I was rich.
