How come “throw” refer to spread? and when do you use this expression?

This is a common expression in English. It has more emphasis on the speed and amount that is placed; is used in a slightly joking manner. "Throw" and "spread" are not interchangeable in all circumstances. You can use this expression when you are telling someone else to spread something onto another thing. Here are some examples: A: Would you like some mayonnaise on your sandwich? B: Yeah! Throw everything on there! Ex: Could you throw some peanut butter onto my bread, please? Ex: Throw some of that butter on there!
