This is a great question! It's really easy to confuse "say" and "tell" since they are both very similar in meaning. "Say" means that you are speaking and conveying information about a specific topic. Ex: She says she likes onions but I never seen her eat them. Ex: I say we go down to the beach. Ex: He says he really likes swimming. "Tell" is used a little differently. It still means to speak and convey information to someone, but in most situations, a pronoun comes after the word "tell." Ex: He told her to get a few items from the grocery store. Ex: I told her to grab the receipt. Ex: We told them to be careful but they were reckless and got injured.
