"Watch out" is an expression that is used to warn someone of danger. This is used mostly in situations where there may be immediate danger. Ex: Watch out, there's a car in front of you! Ex: Watch out, the stove is hot! "Be careful" is used when there is potential danger or an accident that can happen that is not as immediate. "Be careful" is used to tell someone to be aware so they can avoid danger in the future. Ex: Be careful when you eat the soup, it is very hot. Ex: Be careful when you drive home, the roads are a little icy.
