Although both are bodies of water, there are some differences. Lagoons are usually located along the coast or separated from larger bodies of water by a barrier, and are shallower and made up of saltwater (or brackish water, which is a mix of saltwater and freshwater). Lakes, however, are usually inland, deeper, and made up of freshwater. Ex: There are many famous lagoons in New Zealand. Ex: Many people in my town like to go visit the lake in the summer.
