"Eliminate" is a word commonly used to refer to contestants who have been cut from competitions. Project Runway is a fashion competition show, and contestants with poor evaluations or scores are "eliminated" (cut or dropped) each episode. Outside of competitions or television shows, the verb "eliminate" is not commonly used in reference to people (unless referring to murder). Ex: Two contestants will be eliminated during each episode of the show. Ex: My favorite contestant was eliminated, I'm so sad.
