A "tall story", usually called a "tall tale", refers to a type of story in literature that contains exaggerations of actual events that are told as if they are true but are hard to believe since they are so exaggerated. One famous "tall tale" in American literature is the story of Paul Bunyan who was a giant lumberjack.
