Yes, the term "I'm waiting" is used casually. It is also used passive-aggressively, like in this video. Instead of "I'm waiting" you could use the word "await". Another expression would be "I'll be on standby". These would both be considered more formal and polite. Ex: I'll be on standby until you choose what venue you want. Then we can start decorating! Ex: It was great chatting with you today. I'll await your response before we move forward with the plan.
