When can I use the expression "I couldn't help it"?
"I couldn't help it" is used to talk about doing something because it felt irresistible or was unavoidable. So it is used a lot when people want to imply that something was beyond their control and therefore they cannot be blamed for the results. Ex: I just had to push the button—I couldn't help it! Ex: I knew I shouldn't eat the cake, but I couldn't help it.
